Can I let you in on a secret? Losing weight successfully – emphasis on successfully – does not require physical effort, it requires mental effort. Because it’s a new way of seeing that’ll do it, not a new way of doing – like a new diet or gym class. Quick aside: there’s nothing wrong with a clean diet and exercise will make you happy.

Your current way of seeing is (and I’m paraphrasing), If only I could stick to a diet for longer than a week. Sugar is my enemy. I don’t have time to sort this out. Why am I so obsessed with food? I’m going to be fat forever. I’ll never be free.

The new way of seeing that you need is, all of this is thought, not truth, thought. And all of those thoughts are creating this picture of myself, because the picture that we look out at, as humans, is created by the thoughts we believe. If this current picture is created by thoughts I’ve believed, what would happen if I stopped believing them? What if, when I felt that urge-like craving to eat toast with eggs instead of oats for breakfast, I just sort of, rolled by eyes at this crazy notion and let it jog on?

I’ll tell you what happens. Those blocks that were stopping you from choosing the oats without resentment fall away. You choose the oats with a happy and newly empowered heart.

Once you’re alerted to the role thoughts plays in your life you have the ways and means of never having to listen to those urge-like cravings again. You have the ways and means of eating yourself thin.

It’s like this: You accept your urge-like cravings to eat are thought. When one strikes you assume the role of witness to it, understanding now that this space for you to slot into, exists.

Observing a thought strips it of its power to control you. Just like that your food craziness disperses and your eating habits normalize (and your ass shrinks).

It sounds kind of crazy but it’s not food making you fat, it’s thought.

And it’s only once you recognise your role as witness to that thought? That you’re free.
